Langbein was a highly decorated thrower for Gallaudet University’s men’s track and field program. He was a three-time All-Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) first team honoree in discus, hammer and shot put. He finished first in those events at the 1991, ’92 and ’93 CAC men’s outdoor track and field championships. Langbein was the first back-to-back CAC Men’s Track and Field Player of the Year (1992, ’93), a feat that has only happen three times (twice by Bison student-athletes) in the 23-year history of the conference. Langbein was a standout in the classroom as he was named the CAC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, twice, in 1992, ’93. He was Gallaudet’s second-ever CoSIDA Academic All-America when he was named to the second team in 1993. Langbein participated in the1993 NCAA Division III outdoor track and field championships where he earned All-American honors in discus. He competed at four straight Mason-Dixon championships where he won the discus and hammer events in 1992, ’93. He was named the 1993 Mason-Dixon Championships Outstanding Male Athlete. He still holds the school record in the hammer throw when he made a toss of 51.47 meters (168’, 10”) at the 1993 CAC championships. He helped the Bison finish third in the team standings at the 1993 CAC championships.
