Gallaudet University

"He joined the 1933 Gallaudet football team as a rookie quarterback. Coach Frederick Hughes rarely used him in the season’s first few games. Then before the game with American University, needing a spark, Hughes tabbed a very surprised Drake as the starting quarterback. All he did was to run wild all over the field and the American tacklers couldn’t stop him – and Gallaudet won 35-0. It was Gallaudet’s first win in three seasons and it ignited a wild, all-night campus celebration.

Race played Gallaudet football throughout student days but his35-0 feat could not be duplicated. Wary of his open field running,opponents zeroed on him in each game. He stayed with the team to the bitter end, as Gallaudet dropped football after he finished his career in 1937." (Deaf Digest Sports, 2012)
