LATHAM, N.Y. – The United East Conference announced its weekly conference student-athlete of the week awards for Sept. 29 and Gallaudet University senior midfielder
Matteo Giansanti (Rome, Italy) was named the Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
Giansanti scored one goal and tallied one assist as the Bison won their conference opener, 2-1, on the road at Penn St.-Brandywine. Giansanti got the scoring started with an unassisted goal in the ninth minute as GU led 1-0 and took that one-goal advantage into halftime. In the second half, Giansanti's corner kick found the head of first-year forward
Xavier De Leon's head for the second Bison goal in the 74th minute.
Penn St.-Abington senior goalkeeper Brendan Warner was named the United East Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after he recorded a pair of shutouts innet against New Jersey City University and Notre Dame of Maryland University.
GU HONORS
This is Gallaudet's first United East Men's Soccer Player of the Week honors this season. This is the first United East weekly honor for Giansanti in their soccer career.
