Four Bison earn CSC Academic All-District Women's Volleyball honors

WASHINGTON  - The College Sports Communicators announced its 2023 Academic All-District® Women's Volleyball Teams and Gallaudet University landed four student-athletes on the Division III team.

GU's honorees include senior Leila Sicoli (Austin, Texas), juniors Ella Gamble (Cullowhee, N.C.), Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) and sophomore Citrine Lummer (Frederick, Md.).

This is Sicoli's second straight year on the CSC Academic All-District® Women's Volleyball Team and Perry is a CSC Academic All-America® Women's Basketball Team member from last season.

Gamble, a physical education and recreation major, had the highest grade point average (4.00) among the group of four at Gallaudet, the world's only university with programs and services specifically designed to accommodate deaf and hard of hearing students. The other grade point averages are as follows; Perry (Sociology - 3.97 GPA), Lummer (Physical Education and Recreation - 3.86) and Sicoli (Self-Directed - 3.68).

There are 24 representatives from a United East Conference program as 10 teams were represented. Gallaudet and Penn St.-Abington led the way with four honorees. Schools were limited to only four nominations for this sport.

Gallaudet now has 10 CSC Academic All-District® Women's Volleyball Team honors in program history.

The Bison have only one CSC Academic All-America® Women's Volleyball Team selection in Ann Whited, who was selected to the 2012 CSC Academic All-America® Volleyball Third Team as she became the first female in Gallaudet history to earn Academic All-America® honors.

Outstanding student-athletes are nominated for Academic All-District® recognition by current dues-paying CSC members and must meet high academic and athletic standards. Eligible nominees will receive Academic All-District recognition.

The title Academic All-American is reserved for student-athletes who perform at an elite level in their sport and in the classroom.

To be eligible for College Sports Communicators Academic honors, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at their current institution and be nominated by their athletic communicator/sports information director. New for 2023-24, student-athletes must compete in 90 percent of the institution's games/contests played or must start in at least 66 percent of the games/contests/matches.

The Academic All-America women's volleyball teams will be announced on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024.
