WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team kept its late-season momentum rolling with a big United East Conference victory over Lancaster Bible College on Padden Court inside the Field House. The Bison brought plenty of energy against one of the conference's top teams and swept the Chargers in straight sets.
Gallaudet (17-9, 7-2 United East) defeated Lancaster Bible (13-10, 8-2 United East) by set scores of 25-23, 25-18, 25-19 to extend its winning streak to seven matches. The Bison remain in fourth place in the conference standings, for now, with one regular-season match remaining. GU holds a key tiebreaker moving forward over LBC.
The opening set provided the most fireworks as both teams traded points early before the Chargers used a 9-1 run to build an 18-12 lead. Gallaudet's defense heated up down the stretch, and a seven-point service run from first-year libero
Tori Harris (Stockbridge, Ga.) helped the Bison rally for a 25-23 victory.
The next two sets didn't feature the same drama as the Bison took advantage of Lancaster Bible's hitting struggles. Gallaudet hit .324 in the second set and held the Chargers to a negative hitting percentage (-.029) in the third to complete the sweep.
Senior outside hitter
Brielle Worley (Amarillo, Texas) led the Bison with a match-high 15 kills and eight digs, bringing her season total to 421 kills. Fellow senior outside hitter
Jada Zarembka (Riverside, Calif.) recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 13 kills and 16 digs. Zarembka also added two service aces and two solo blocks.
First-year setter
Gracie Gloster (Clark, N.J.) handed out a match-high 31 assists and added seven digs, while Harris matched Zarembka with 16 digs. Graduate student middle hitter
Bri Eilderts (Omaha, Neb.) contributed four kills and four blocks (one solo).
Gallaudet finished with 37 kills and a .269 hitting percentage while holding Lancaster Bible to just 31 kills and a .079 hitting percentage. The Bison also recorded seven team blocks.
For the Chargers, first-year opposite Hannah Helmer led the way with 11 kills and a .250 hitting percentage, while Tessa Kwiatkowski distributed 17 assists.
