LATHAM, N.Y. – The United East Conference announced its student-athlete of the week awards and Gallaudet University swept the Women's Volleyball Player of the Week awards for the week ending Sept. 13. Senior outside hitter
Brielle Worley (Amarillo, Texas) was selected as the Offensive Player of the Week while graduate student middle hitter
Bri Eilderts (Omaha, Neb.) was picked for Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Worley helped lead the Bison to a 3-0 week with three straight-set victories as GU improved to 6-0 for its best start during Head Coach
Lynn Ray Boren's tenure. Worley totaled 45 kills (5.00 per set) and hit .481 with only eight errors on 77 attempts. She recorded 20 kills and hit .395 in a sweep at Hood, followed with 12 kills and a .647 hitting percentage against Saint Elizabeth and closed the week with 13 kills while hitting .500 at Sweet Briar. Worley added 14 digs, four service aces and two block assists.
Eilderts totaled nine blocks (1.00 per set) during the week, including five block assists against Saint Elizabeth and two block assists in wins over Hood and Sweet Briar. She also contributed 12 kills with only one attack error on 23 attempts for a .478 hitting percentage, highlighted by a perfect seven kills on seven attempts against Sweet Briar. Eilderts added five service aces in the Sweet Briar victory.
GU HONORS
This is Gallaudet's second and third United East Women's Volleyball Player of the Week honor this season and the 11th United East weekly honor of Worley's collegiate career and the first United East weekly honor of Eilderts' collegiate career.
