LATHAM, N.Y. – The United East Conference announced its weekly conference student-athlete of the week awards for March 31 and Gallaudet University swept the Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week awards. First-year
Sevan Ikeda (Fremont, Calif.) was selected as the Track Athlete of the Week while junior thrower
Andrew Suarez (Fairview, Texas) took home Field Athlete of the Week honors.
Ikeda impressed in his outdoor debut last Saturday at the Seahawk Invitational where he participated in three events. He captured first place in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:08.05, added a third-place finish in the 1,500 meters (4:22.82), and placed ninth in the 800 meters (2:18.86).
Suarez had a standout performance last Saturday at the Seahawk Invitational as the Bison thrower won two throwing events and placed third in another. Suarez won the hammer throw with a personal-best toss of 40.35 meters and claimed first in the shot put with a top mark of 11.68 meters. He also placed third in the discus with a personal-best throw of 34.72 meters.
GU HONORS
This is Gallaudet's first two United East Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors this season. This is the first United East weekly honor for Ikeda and Suarez in their careers.
