LATHAM, N.Y. – The United East Conference announced its weekly conference student-athlete of the week awards for Sept. 16 and Gallaudet University first year
Sevan Ikeda (Fremont, Calif.) was named the Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for a second time this season.
Ikeda finished second last Friday evening at the United East Preview meet hosted by Penn State Brandywine. Ikeda navigated the technical and hilly course that weaved in and out of the woods and completed the men's 8K race in 28 minutes and 19.53 seconds. Ikeda was the first runner from a United East conference school to finish the race. Ikeda averaged a pace of 5:42 per mile and was 10 seconds faster than the next closest runner (third place) to earn silver in a race with 100 runners.
Cairn University junior Clarissa Hayden was named the United East Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week. Last year's United East Women's Runner of the Year is keeping pace in 2025 as she topped the field at the United East Championship Preview hosted by Penn St.-Brandywine last Friday. The junior crossed the finish line at 24:47.72, which was roughly 15 seconds faster than the next runner. Her time was the best among the 75 runners competing and helped the Highlanders to a third-place team finish.
