Ikeda picks up third United East Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week honor this season

LATHAM, N.Y. – The United East Conference announced Tuesday its student-athlete of the week awards and Gallaudet University sophomore Sevan Ikeda (Fremont, Calif.) was named the Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week ending Oct. 4. This is the third honor this season for Ikeda.

Ikeda placed seventh overall out of 73 runners at the Don Cathcart Invitational hosted by Salisbury University last Saturday, completing the 8K course in a career-best 25 minutes, six seconds. Racing through rain and muddy course conditions, the defending United East champion recorded the third-fastest 8K time in Gallaudet men's cross country history and finished as one of the top NCAA Division III runners in the field. Ikeda's performance moved him up Gallaudet's all-time 8K record list and marked another strong outing during his sophomore season.

Cedar Crest College graduate student Ryley Schwalm was selected as the United East Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the second time this fall. Schwalm placed 30th overall in a field of 408 runners at the Paul Short Run, completing the 6K course in 22:25.5. Her performance once again established a new program record for the fastest 6K time in Cedar Crest history.
