EARLYSVILLE, Va. – The Gallaudet University men's cross country team tested itself against a strong regional field Saturday morning at the NCAA Division III South Region Preview hosted by the University of Lynchburg at Panorama Farms.
Sophomore
Sevan Ikeda (Fremont, Calif.) and first year
Dylan Olmos (San Jose, Calif.) continued their strong starts to the season as the Bison returned to the 8-kilometer distance.
Ikeda finished 19th overall out of 155 runners with a time of 26 minutes, 49 seconds. The defending United East Conference champion has finished among the Top 20 in each of Gallaudet's first three meets this season.
Olmos turned in another solid performance during his first collegiate season as he crossed the finish line 55th overall in 28:20. The first-year runner was the second Bison to finish and averaged 5:42 per mile over the 8K course.
First year
Kai Huot (St. Augustine, Fla.) finished 145th with a time of 34:33. Fellow first year
Hawi Valentin (Pawtucket, R.I.) made his Gallaudet cross country debut and rounded out the Bison contingent in 154th place with a time of 44:19.
Gallaudet had four runners complete the race and did not record a team score since five finishers are required to score as a team.
University of Lynchburg sophomore Ty Blair won the individual title in 25:43, one second ahead of Roanoke College sophomore Nathaniel Orban (25:44). Lynchburg senior Aidan Riggle finished third in 25:44.
Host Lynchburg won the 16-team meet with 28 points and placed four runners among the first eight finishers. Pfeiffer University finished second with 92 points. Roanoke and Berry College tied with 108 points, with Roanoke earning third place on the tiebreaker.
The meet gave the Bison an early look at Panorama Farms, which will host the NCAA Division III South Regional on Nov. 14.

Gallaudet is off next weekend before beginning the month of October on Maryland's Eastern Shore at the Don Cathcart Invitational hosted by Salisbury University at WinterPlace Park on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 2:30 p.m.
