LATHAM, N.Y. – The United East Conference announced its weekly conference student-athlete of the week awards for Sept. 2 and Gallaudet University first year
Sevan Ikeda (Fremont, Calif.) was named the Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week.
Ikeda finished fourth overall last Saturday at the Salisbury University Fall Classic as he finished the 8K race with a time of 25 minutes and 29.20 seconds at WinterPlace Park. The 25:29.20 time is the fourth fastest in program history. This was Ikeda's first collegiate race.
Ikeda is the first Bison to post a Top 10 school mark in an 8K race since 2015 when first-year runner
Otto Kingstedt posted four Top 10 marks. Kingstedt's best time as a Bison was 26:02, which is now fifth overall just behind Ikeda.
Ikeda becomes Gallaudet's first men's cross country runner since Kingstedt to earn conference runner of the week honors. Kingstedt earned six honors in 2015 with the last one being bestowed to him on Oct. 20, 2015. The last GU cross country runner to earn conference runner of the week honors was
Kathe Wilken-Yoder two seasons ago when she earned two weekly honors (Oct. 3 & 17, 2023).
St. Mary's College of Maryland sophomore Ella Mitchell was named the United East Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week. Mitchell was the first Seahawk to cross the 4K finish line at the Spider Alumni Open hosted by University of Richmond, finishing 107th in the 172-person field with a personal record of 16:15.1.
GU HONORS
This is Gallaudet's first United East Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week honor this season and seventh overall in program history. This is the first career United East weekly honor for Ikeda.
