Gallaudet's Brielle Worley earns Division III Women's Volleyball Academic All-America honors

AUSTIN, Texas – Gallaudet University sophomore outside hitter Brielle Worley (Amarillo, Texas) was selected to the 2024 Academic All-America® Division III Women's Volleyball teams, as selected by the College Sports Communicators.

Worley was named to the third team from Gallaudet, the world's only university with programs and services specifically designed to accommodate deaf and hard of hearing students. Worley is the only representative from the United East Conference.

Worley is one of 24 honorees named to three different teams from around the country in Division III women's volleyball where 417 schools field teams. The 24 members of the 2024 Academic All-America® Division III Women's Volleyball teams have at least a 3.51 GPA, with four student-athletes maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA including Worley. The entire Division III team had a cumulative average GPA of 3.83.

Worley, a business administration major, posted a perfect 4.00 grade point average and was named an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America honorable mention last month after being named the 2024 United East Women's Volleyball Player of the Year. She also was an AVCA All-Region first team and United East all-conference first team honoree. Worley was a difference maker for the Bison this season. The UT-Tyler transfer was picked as the AVCA Women's Division III National Player of the Week (Oct. 1). Worley led NCAA Division III in kills (579) and points (649) and was third in points per set (5.55).

Worley becomes Gallaudet's fourth women's volleyball player to earn Academic All-America® honors as she joins current teammates Ella Gamble (2023 - First Team) and Cassidy Perry (2023 - Third Team) and Ann Whited (2012 - Third Team). Worley becomes the seventh female in Gallaudet's history to earn Academic All-America honors.

Olivia Foley from Juniata College, was picked Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for Division III women's volleyball. The other first team honorees in addition to Foley include; Simone Adam (Johns Hopkins), Mackenzie Coley (Juniata), Alyssa Dozier (Christopher Newport), Graycee Mosley (East Texas Baptist), Consecrata Rozario (MIT) and Addie VanderWeide (Hope).

To be eligible for College Sports Communicators Academic honors, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at their current institution and be nominated by their athletic communicator/sports information director. A new requirement that started in 2023-24 is student-athletes must compete in 90 percent of the institution's games/contests played or must start in at least 66 percent of the games/contests/matches.

Gallaudet Associate Athletic Director for Communications Sam Atkinson, a College Sports Communicators Past President, nominated Worley for this honor and has helped Gallaudet athletics increase its Academic All-America totals, tenfold, in his 15 years at the helm. Gallaudet has earned 20 Academic All-America selections in program history since the inception of the awards in 1952. Eighteen of the 20 honors have come in the last 13 years as GU earned at least one every year for six years straight (2012-17).
