WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday at Penn College as the Bison swept the host Wildcats in a United East Conference match before falling to Lebanon Valley College in four sets at Bardo Gymnasium.
Gallaudet (9-7, 1-1 United East) opened the day with a 3-0 victory over Penn College, 25-20, 25-14, 25-20. The Bison returned to the court later in the afternoon and fell to Lebanon Valley, 16-25, 25-18, 14-25, 19-25.
The split gave Gallaudet a 2-1 record during its two-day trip to Williamsport after the Bison defeated Lycoming College in four sets Friday night.
Gallaudet 3, Penn College 0
Gallaudet turned in one of its most efficient offensive performances of the season against Penn College (0-18, 0-3 United East) as the Bison hit .400 with 39 kills and only seven attack errors on 80 attempts. GU hit .414 in the opening set, .379 in the second and .409 in the third.
Senior outside hitter
Brielle Worley (Amarillo, Texas) led the Bison with 16 kills and hit .353 to go with seven digs. Senior outside hitter
Jada Zarembka (Riverside, Calif.) added 10 kills, seven digs and hit .364.
Graduate student opposite Bri Eilderts (Omaha, Neb.) was nearly flawless on the attack with eight kills and no errors on 11 attempts for a .727 hitting percentage. Eilderts also served up three aces. First-year setter Gracie Gloster (Clark, N.J.) passed out 32 assists and recorded a match-high six service aces, while first-year libero Sirrah Wilding (Santa Fe, N.M.) made a team-high nine digs. GU finished with 12 service aces in the sweep.
Penn College sophomore outside hitter Lilly Stockum led the Wildcats with 14 kills and hit .333, while junior outside hitter Peyton Maass added 10 kills and hit .350.
Lebanon Valley 3, Gallaudet 1
Gallaudet returned to the court later Saturday against Lebanon Valley (9-5) and dropped the opening set, 16-25, before responding with a 25-18 victory in the second frame to even the match. The Dutchmen regained control with a 25-14 third-set victory and closed out the match with a 25-19 win in the fourth.
Worley led the Bison with 14 kills and eight digs, while Zarembka recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs to go with three service aces and four blocks (two solo). Sophomore middle hitter Kayla Debrow (Jacksonville, Fla.) added four blocks (two solo), as Gloster passed out 29 assists.
Lebanon Valley first-year outside hitter Hadley Sparks led all players with 20 kills, hit .471 and added 15 digs to complete the double-double. Sophomore libero Molly Thomas made a match-high 23 digs, while junior setter Jasmine Sullivan finished with 37 assists and four service aces. The Dutchmen held a 14-6 advantage in service aces.
