WASHINGTON – Gallaudet University's women's volleyball team received several career-best performances Saturday afternoon as the Bison split a home tri-match against Keystone College and Regis (Mass.) College inside the Field House.
Gallaudet (10-9, 2-2 United East) opened the day with a 3-0 United East Conference victory over Keystone before falling to Regis, 3-1, in the afternoon finale.
The Bison played without senior outside hitter
Brielle Worley (Amarillo, Texas), who entered the weekend leading NCAA Division III in kills per set (5.29) and points per set (5.98). Worley also ranked fourth nationally in total kills (291) and fifth in total points (329).
In her absence, senior outside hitter
Jada Zarembka (Riverside, Calif.) stepped up with a combined 42 kills and 28 digs across seven sets, recording two double-doubles while establishing career highs in kills and points against Regis. Several first-year Bison also took advantage of increased opportunities throughout the afternoon.
Gallaudet 3, Keystone 0
Gallaudet opened the tri-match with a 25-23, 25-10, 25-17 sweep of the Giants (4-17, 1-3 United East).
The opening set featured 13 ties and seven lead changes before the Bison prevailed by two points. GU took control in the second set, hitting .438 with 15 kills and only one attack error, and carried that momentum into the third to complete the sweep.
Zarembka paced the Bison with 18 kills and 12 digs while hitting .371. Sophomore middle hitter
Kayla Debrow (Jacksonville, Fla.) delivered career highs of 10 kills and 11 points while hitting .750 with only one attack error on 12 attempts. Debrow also recorded a solo block to reach 100 career blocks in just her second season at Gallaudet.
Graduate student middle hitter
Bri Eilderts (Omaha, Neb.) established a career high with 10 kills without an attack error on 15 attempts for a .667 hitting percentage.
First year
Aliyah Medearis (Colorado Springs, Colo.) made an impact from the service line with six aces, tying her career high set against New England College on Sept. 4. Medearis also recorded a career-high 10 digs.
First-year setter
Gracie Gloster (Clark, N.J.) distributed 34 assists and added five service aces, while first-year libero
Tori Harris (Stockbridge, Ga.) chipped in eight digs and two aces.
Gallaudet finished with 43 kills and a .326 hitting percentage while serving 14 aces.
Keystone was led by sophomore opposite Madison Woods with seven kills and five digs. Freshman middle hitter Nakaya Cridge added three kills, two service aces and two solo blocks, while sophomore libero Nat Reyes collected a team-high 10 digs.
Regis 3, Gallaudet 1
The Bison returned to the court later in the afternoon to face a Regis squad that had swept Keystone (4-18) in the neutral-site match and entered the finale riding an eight-match winning streak.
The Pride (16-3, 6-0 Great Northeast) won the first two sets by identical 25-21 scores before Gallaudet mounted a spirited comeback in the third.
Trailing 22-24 and facing match point, the Bison rattled off four consecutive kills to steal the third set, 26-24, and extend the match. Regis regrouped in the fourth and pulled away for a 25-18 victory to complete the four-set win.
Zarembka led the Bison with a career-high 24 kills and 26.5 points while hitting .258. She added 16 digs and three blocks for her second double-double of the day and seventh of the season.
Medearis continued her strong afternoon with career highs of 11 kills and 11 points while adding seven digs.
Gloster passed out 40 assists and added nine digs, marking her fourth match this season with at least 40 assists. Harris anchored the back row with a team-high 21 digs, her second-highest total in a match this season.
Eilderts contributed eight kills and three block assists, while first year
Sirrah Wilding (Santa Fe, N.M.) added eight digs.
First-year middle hitters
Sulianie Casella (Buda, Texas) and
Nirveli Smith (Henrietta, N.Y.) each recorded their first collegiate kill during the match.
Regis was led by senior outside hitter Avery Mola with 18 kills, 12 digs and three service aces. Sophomore outside hitter Olivya Bush added 15 kills, while senior opposite Grace Fabiano finished with 13. Junior setter Alexandra Rivera handed out 47 assists and became just the second player in Regis program history to surpass 2,000 career assists during the match.
The Pride finished with 60 kills, a program record for a four-set match, and extended their winning streak to nine matches.
Regis 3, Keystone 0
Regis defeated Keystone in straight sets, 25-20, 28-26, 25-16, in the day's neutral-site contest. The Giants held a 15-9 advantage in the second set before the Pride rallied to win in extra points. First-year outside hitter Maeve Zakrzewski led Regis with 11 kills, while senior Hannah Ely paced Keystone with 10.
BISON TRACKS
- Zarembka surpassed 500 career digs Saturday and now has 515 in her Gallaudet career.
- Debrow finished Saturday with 102 career blocks after recording three solo blocks across the two matches.
- Gloster has recorded 30 or more assists in 10 matches this season, including four performances with at least 40 assists.
- GU improved to 3-0 in its series against Keystone, with all three victories coming in straight sets during the past three seasons (2024-26).
- This was the first meeting between Gallaudet and Regis.
