COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Gallaudet University men's indoor track and field team brought home several school records and first-place finishes on Friday night at the Bow Tie Invitational hosted by Ursinus College in the Floy Lewis Bakes Center.
Junior
Walter Douglas (Sanford, Fla.) erased a 33-year-old school record in the long jump as he jumped 6.64 meters (21 feet, 9.5 inches) to finish third overall. Douglas broke
Michael Cross Jr.'s old school mark of 6.63 meters (21 feet, 9 inches) set on Feb. 16, 1990, in Blacksburg, Va., at the Mason-Dixon Championship.
Gallaudet's 4x400 meter relay team of senior
Gareth Ashton (Austin, Texas), sophomore
Trey Johnson (Kyle, Texas), Douglas and senior
Eric Gregory (Metairie, La.) won the event with a school-record time of 3:27.58. The mark improves last years' time of 3:31.13 set by
Troy Holcomb, Douglas, Ashton and Gregory.
Gregory won the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.16 seconds.
First-year thrower
Navar Harris (Charleston, W.Va.) finished fourth in the shot put with a top toss of 12.32 meters (40 feet, 5 inches).
BISON TRACKS
- First-year sprinter Joshua Kelley (Dothan, Ala.) placed 12th in the 60-meter dash (7.39 seconds)
- Johnson was 14th with a time of 7.44 seconds
- First-year sprinter Andrae' Green (Washington, D.C.) came across the finish line in the 400-meter dash in 16th place (56.20)
- First-year long-distance runner Roberto Torres (Miami Gardens, Fla.) finished 17th in the 5K with a time of 17:15.81.
