Gallaudet's Hannah Wetzel named United East Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week

LATHAM, N.Y. – The United East Conference announced its weekly conference student-athlete of the week awards for Dec. 12 and Gallaudet University senior Hannah Wetzel (Fremont, Calif.) was named Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week. This is the first Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week awards in the history of the conference.

Wetzel continues to raise the bar on her own school records in the long and triple jump events. Wetzel started the indoor season at the Holiday Kickoff Open on Dec. 3 with a long jump record of 5.24 meters. Several days later, Wetzel improved on her mark with a leap of 5.32 meters (17 feet, 5.5 inches) as she won the event at the Bow Tie Invitational hosted by Ursinus College last Friday night. At the same Bow Tie Invitational meet, Wetzel took first in the triple jump with a top jump of 11.19 meters (36 feet, 8.5 inches) to improve on her old school record of 10.92 meters (35 feet, 8.25 inches) set on March 4, 2023.

Penn State Harrisburg senior sprinter Leah Gray was selected as the Track Athlete of the Week after posting a school record of 7.91 seconds in the 60-meter dash.
