GU tripped up by Wells in the second half

Box Score

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's soccer team kept Sunday's United East Conference game at Hotchkiss Field against Wells College close for the first 50 minutes of the game before the Express rattled off six goals in a 28-minute span en route to a 7-0 win.

Gallaudet (0-5, 0-2 United East) let in a quick Wells goal just two minutes and 19 seconds into the game with a high shot on a tough angle over the head of Bison junior goalie Payton DeGraw (Salt Lake City, Utah).

The score remained 1-0 for the rest of the half as the two teams competed on a hot and humid Sunday afternoon in the nation's capital.

In the second half, Wells got on the scoreboard quickly and often as they scored goals on the fast break, from a penalty kick and used high and low shots to get the soccer ball past sophomore goalie Lilian Nelson (Minneapolis, Minn.).

In the end, Wells (1-3-1, 1-1 United East) outshot the Bison 32-4 and held a 9-2 edge in corner kicks.

Nelson finished the game with 10 saves while DeGraw registered five.
