Bison win first conference game with five-goal performance over Wells

Box Score

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University men's soccer team celebrated its first United East Conference win this season with a 5-3 victory over Wells College on a hot and humid Sunday afternoon at Hotchkiss Field.

Gallaudet (2-3-1, 1-1 United East) and Wells (0-7, 0-2 United East) competed for two hours and 10 minutes as the teams exchanged goals before the Bison got the final two goals to put the game away.

The led throughout and never trailed but the Express tied the game three different times during the conference game.

GU had four different goal scorers in the game and Wells scored an own goal in the 81st minute to give the Bison the two-goal cushion.

Senior Kelly Grant (Hazelwood, Mo.) and junior Tristan Torbett (Wilmington, N.C.) led the Bison with one goal and one assist each. Torbett scored the game's first goal in the 15th minute off an assist from Grant.

Junior Kyle Santello (Cooperstown, N.Y.) converted a penalty kick at the 33:29 mark to give GU a 2-1 lead, an advantage it took into halftime.

In the second half, Grant broke a 2-2 tie with his fourth goal of the season off an assist from freshman Hammad Khan (Little Rock, Ark.) as he headed the ball past Wells goalie Sean Nemeth (five saves).

Wells netted a third goal in the 71st minute but the tie didn't last for long as Gallaudet regained the lead for good at the 76:33 mark. Sophomore Amjad Al-Siyabi (Muscat, Oman) blasted home a shot into the right upper 90 thanks to an assist from Torbett off the corner kick.

A defensive miscue in the 81st minute saw an Express defender kick the ball back to Nemeth and it ended up in the back of the net for Gallaudet's fifth and final goal.

Sophomore Bode Aggas (West Henrietta, N.Y.) earned his first win in net for the Bison as he made six saves on the day.
