Box Score WASHINGTON - It was a physical and defensive men's soccer battle here Saturday afternoon between Gallaudet University and SUNY Morrisville as the two clubs opened up United East Conference play at Hotchkiss Field.
The two clubs played strong and stern in the first half as the majority of the game was played in the midfield as shots were hard to come by. The Mustangs got on the scoreboard late in the first half as they scored on the doorstep of the Bison goal with three minutes left before halftime. In the second half, SUNY Morrisville added two additional goals to come away with the 3-0 road win before a crowd of 110.
Gallaudet (1-3-1, 0-1 United East) had several opportunities in the final 40 minutes of play. Sophomore forward Mamboh Smith (Silver Spring, Md.) had a header that was saved by Mustang goalie Caleb Lucero (one save). Minutes later, junior midfielder Tristan Torbett (Wilmington, N.C.) got off a shot that was saved by a Mustang defender in the 57th minute.
Sophomore Bode Aggas (West Henrietta, N.Y.) got the start in goal for the Bison and played the entire 90 minutes and made three saves.
SUNY Morrisville (2-3, 1-0 United East) was paced by Brandon Gargiulo's one goal and one assist performance in the second half as he assisted on Justin Klaczko's goal in the 59th minute and scored his first goal of the season in the 61st minute. Kevin San Martin scored the game's first goal and he assisted on Gargiulo's goal at the 61:08 mark in the second half.
