Bison pay tribute to seniors in final home game

Box Score

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University men's soccer game against Penn St.-Berks got off on the right foot for the Bison here Saturday in a key United East Conference game on a picturesque fall afternoon at Hotchkiss Field.

The Bison lead was short lived as the visiting Nittany Lions rallied to score six unanswered goals en route to a 6-1 win.

Prior to the start of the game, the Bison men's soccer program paid tribute to its senior class; Moosa Al-Hadifi (Muscat, Oman), Alaa Al-Riyami (Muscat, Oman), Amjad Al-Siyabi (Muscat, Oman), Kelly Grant (Hazelwood, Mo.), AJ Markel (College Park, Md.) and Kyle Santello (Cooperstown, N.Y.) as the players' family and friends gathered with them on Senior Day.

Once the game got underway it was a senior leading the way for the Bison.

Gallaudet (3-9-1, 1-5 United East) got on the scoreboard just one minute and 41 seconds into the contest. Grant scored his fifth goal of the season off a nice pass from the left side of the field from freshman forward Hammad Khan (Little Rock, Ark.) as the Bison led 1-0. Khan's pass found Grant right in the middle of the goalie box as he shot it past Penn St.-Berks goalie Ethan Brazier (two saves).

Penn St.-Berks (4-9-1, 3-3 United East) regrouped and responded with a Ryan Miller goal at the 7:21 mark to knot the game at 1-1. Midfielder Own VanDyke had a career game as he scored three goals, in a row, in the 27th, 40th and 62nd minutes of play to lead the Nittany Lions offense. Penn St.-Berks led 3-1 at the half.

GU sophomore goalie Bode Aggas (West Henrietta, N.Y.) made three saves in the loss.
