Box Score BALTIMORE - It was great to see the Gallaudet University women's soccer team back on the pitch here Friday afternoon to take on Notre Dame of Maryland University to begin the 2021 season. This was the first Bison women's soccer game since Nov. 2, 2019, a span of 672 days, since the COVID-19 pandemic wiped out the end of the 2020 and 2020-21 seasons.
Gallaudet and Notre Dame (Md.) played a scoreless first half before the host Gators got on the scoreboard early in the second half. A Bison foul inside the goalie box in the 49th minute awards the Gators a penalty kick. Kayla Grube converted the penalty kick with a shot past the GU goalie as Notre Dame (Md.) took a 1-0 lead.
The Gators (1-0) held the one-goal advantage for the remainder of the contest to begin the 2021 season with the win. Gallaudet (0-1) had two shots in the final five minutes of play but couldn't find the back of the net.
Freshman midfielder Yasmeen Holguin (Aurora, Colo.) had a shot in the 85th minute miss the goal while freshman teammate Ashley Harlicker (Shenandoah, Texas) got a shot on goal, a minute later, but Gator goalie Julie Mullane made her third and final save of the game.
