Box Score WASHINGTON - The United East men's soccer game between Gallaudet University and Penn St.-Abington was close for a half before the visiting Nittany Lions recorded three goals en route to a 4-0 victory at Hotchkiss Field. This was Gallaudet's conference home opener here on a sunny Saturday afternoon.
Gallaudet (2-5, 1-2 United East) tallied four shots in each half but couldn't get a shot past Nittany Lion goalie Matt Sheldon (3-3), as the keeper made four saves. On the flipside, Gallaudet starting goalie Shane Angel (Mechanicsville, Md.) had to leave the game early on as the Bison used a rotation of freshman Bode Aggas (West Henrietta, N.Y.) and freshman Liam Painter (Edgewood, N.M.) in goal for the remainder of the game.
Penn St.-Abington (4-3, 1-1 United East) got on the scoreboard in the 22nd minute when Sheldon booted a ball down the field to a streaking Eljio Agolli, who headed the ball past a defender and shot it into the goal. The Nittany Lions led 1-0 at the half.
In the second half, Brian Gibson scored his fourth goal of the season off an assist from Michael Thomas (one goal, one assist) just four minutes in. Moments later, it was Thomas who scored his fourth goal of the season off an assist from Agolli (one goal, one assist).
The Nittany Lions tacked on a meaningless goal in the 87th minute, as Robert Lare assisted Roan Vadakan.
