Gallaudet's Sean O'Callaghan earns CoSIDA Academic All-District Men's Soccer honors

WASHINGTON  - College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced it's 2020-21 Academic All-District® Men's Soccer Teams and Gallaudet University senior defender Sean O'Callaghan (San Diego, Calif.) was selected to the District 2 first team for Division III. O'Callaghan will now be added to the national ballot for the chance to earn Academic All-America honors, which will be announced on Wednesday, July 7.

O'Callaghan becomes the first CoSIDA Academic All-District® men's soccer team honoree to represent Gallaudet, the world's only university with programs and services specifically designed to accommodate deaf and hard of hearing students.

O'Callaghan is joined by 12 others players on the 13-member first team; led by six individuals from Johns Hopkins University, two from Middlebury College, and one each from The Catholic University of America, Centenary University, Montclair State University and Stevenson University. O'Callaghan is the only representative from the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) on any of the eight CoSIDA Academic All-District® Men's Soccer Teams.

O'Callaghan, a business administration major, has a GPA of 3.62 and is a two-time NEAC Scholar-Athlete honoree. Gallaudet's 2020-21 athletic season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Student-athletes were nominated using career statistics for this year's CoSIDA Academic All-America® program.

To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic honors, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at their current institution and be nominated by their sports information director. District Two is comprised of Connecticut, Washington, D.C., Delaware, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Vermont and West Virginia.
