Box Score WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's soccer team won a thrilling homecoming game over Trinity Washington University in overtime, 2-1, on a clear and brisk Friday night under the lights at Hotchkiss Field.
GU sophomore goalie Payton DeGraw (Salt Lake City, Utah) took a free kick from midfield with a little over four minutes left in the first overtime period. DeGraw's kick was on goal as Trinity goalie Emily Andino deflected the shot to her left where freshman Danielle Fisher (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was positioned. Fisher booted the ball into the goal to win the game as the Bison players and bench mobbed Fisher on the field to celebrate the overtime victory.
Gallaudet (2-10) applied pressure early on in the first half against the Tigers as the Bison recorded three shots on goal in a 15-second span. Andino made two of her three first-half saves and another GU shot hit the post.
Trinity (3-6-1) broke the scoreless tie in the 26th minute when Karol Barahona-Bonilla scored on a penalty kick with a low shot to the left corner past DeGraw (six saves).
The Tigers held the 1-0 lead at the half.
GU got on the scoreboard early in the second half when freshman Yasmeen Holguin (Aurora, Colo.) dodged a Trinity defender in the goalie box and blasted a shot into the right corner of the net to even the game at 1-1.
The two teams played scoreless soccer for the rest of the second half and the start of the overtime period.
