Bison fall to defending NEAC champions at home under the lights

Box Score

WASHINGTON - It was an uphill battle for the Gallaudet University men's soccer team here Wednesday night under the lights at Hotchkiss Field as the Bison played host to Penn St.-Abington, the defending North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) champions.

Penn St.-Abington (5-2, 3-0 NEAC) scored 10 minutes into the match and continued to score at will en route to an 8-1 win over Gallaudet (2-4, 1-2 NEAC).

The Nittany Lions scored twice, in a four-minute window, to increase their lead to 3-0 at the 35:59 mark in the first half. The visitors added one more goal to take a 4-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Penn St.-Abington picked up where it left off with four more goals before Gallaudet got on the scoreboard in the 87th minute.

Sophomore Sean O'Callaghan (San Diego, Calif.) booted a high-arcing pass from midfield into the Nittany Lion goalie box where freshman forward Chad Johnson (Gardena, Calif.) got his foot on the ball and netted his fourth goal of the season.

Freshman goalie Shane Angel (Mechanicsville, Md.) made nine saves in the loss.
