Bison get defensive against Christendom

Box Score

WASHINGTON - It was a defensive struggle between Gallaudet University and Christendom College here Monday night at Hotchkiss Field in a non-conference men's soccer contest. The visiting Crusaders (6-3) escaped with a 1-0 win over the Bison (1-6).

Gallaudet had several offensive attacks during the game but penalties ended some of their chances as the two physical teams played aggressive defense. When the Bison had a chance to get a shot off, Christendom goalie Carlos Pardo Gasque (two saves) was there to make the save.

Gallaudet outshot Christendom in the second half, 7-5, but it was the Crusaders' strong first half that changed the game and outcome.

The Crusaders held a 10-3 edge in shots and their lone goal came in the 32nd minute when forward Pete Day scored his eighth goal of the season on a high shot into the net. There were two assists on the play as James Salmon, located in the center of the goalie box, passed it quickly to his left to Thomas Vander Woude who kicked the ball left towards Day for the one-time shot.

Sophomore goalie Noah Means-Simonsen (Louisville, Ky.) made five saves in the loss as the Bison defense remained on their heels most of the evening.

BISON TRACKS

  • Senior forward Sean Huber (Orange, Calif.) and freshman Sean O'Callaghan (San Diego, Calif.) led the Bison with three shots each
  • Two of O'Callaghan shots were on goal
  • Day led the Crusaders with seven shots (three shots on goal)
  • GU held a 7-6 edge in corner kicks
