WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University men's soccer team scored its first goal of the 2017 season but it wasn't enough against Eastern Mennonite University on a warm Wednesday evening at Hotchkiss Field as the visiting Royals won 5-1.

Gallaudet (0-5) scored the first goal of the second half when senior Sean Huber (Orange, Calif.) snuck the ball past EMU goalie Emmanuel Kampanga in the 52nd minute. Huber's goal was assisted by sophomore Elan Markel (University Park, Md.). The Bison goal cut the Royals' lead to three, 4-1, after Eastern Mennonite (6-1) took a 4-0 lead into halftime.

EMU scored its fifth and final goal in the 78th minute when Grayson Mast scored off a free kick from center of the field past GU goalie Noah Means-Simonsen (Louisville, Ky.). The sophomore keeper made nine saves in the loss.

The Royals had five different goal scorers in the win. David Shafer scored his third goal of the season for EMU while the four other scorers netted their first goals of the season. Eastern Mennonite has won six straight after it dropped the season opener.
