Bison stampede past Valley Forge, Wheeler nets hat trick

Box Score

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's soccer program is off to its best start in school history since it began the 2010 season undefeated through the first two games. The Bison (3-1) picked up their third win in four games with an 8-0 shutout against University of Valley Forge on a warm Saturday afternoon at Hoy Field.

Gallaudet wasted little time taking control of the game as it scored three times in the first eight minutes of the game. Freshman forward Danielle Wheeler (San Jose, Calif.) scored two of her three goals while freshman midfielder Hailey Montoya (Mentone, Calif.) added a goal and an assist during the early spurt.

Montoya netted Gallaudet's fourth goal in the 23rd minute when she lofted a shot over the head of goalie Taniyah Faison (eight saves).

Junior forward Brittany Mallach (Milton, Ontario) scored her third goal of the season off a corner kick. Mallach's goal was assisted by freshman midfielder Sabrina Hernandez (Ashland, Va.), who had three assists in the contest.

GU took a 5-0 lead into halftime over Valley Forge (3-3).

In the second half, Wheeler scored her third goal on a breakaway goal in the 47th minute. Mallach would net her second goal, 20 minutes later, and junior midfielder Sabina Shysh (Tucson, Ariz.) got into the mix with a goal in the 73rd minute off an assist from Hernandez.

Sophomore goalie Silvya Levesque (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) had a light day in net as she only faced five shots and made five saves to secure her second shutout this season.
