Gallaudet's record-breaking season comes to an end with a tie

Box Score

MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The most successful women's soccer season in Gallaudet University history came to a close here Saturday after the Bison tied College of Saint Elizabeth, 2-2 in double overtime, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game.

Gallaudet (8-7-1, 3-6-1 NEAC) needed a victory and for Lancaster Bible College to lose to Penn St.-Abington today to make the NEAC tournament and neither happened.

Freshman forward Danielle Wheeler (San Jose, Calif.) scored both goals for Gallaudet in the second half. Wheeler's first goal came on a penalty kick chance that she converted at the 69th minute to tie the game 1-1.

Wheeler scored her 20th goal of the season, a new program record, off a rebound at the 77:17 mark to give the Bison their first lead of the game, 2-1.

GU was leading 2-1 and just needed to run out the final six minutes of the game to preserve the win. St. Elizabeth (1-14-1, 1-9 NEAC) had other plans as it tied the game on a Lydia Henry unassisted goal past sophomore goalie Silvya Levesque (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) at the 84:44 mark.

The two teams went to overtime. In the extra frames, junior forward Brittany Mallach (Milton, Ontario) had GU's best chance to end the game when her shot his the post and just missed. Time ran out in the game and on Gallaudet's season.

BISON TRACKS

  • The two teams played a scoreless first half
  • Levesque made seven saves in the 110 minutes played
  • GU held a 22-12 edge in shots
  • Wheeler made a game-high 14 shots, eight on goal
  • Mallach finished with five shots, three on goal

UP NEXT
This concludes the season for the Bison. GU will only lose one senior and should return the majority of its team intact. The Bison set many program records this season including wins (8) and goals (55) to highlight a few.
