Bison women's soccer falls to Penn College

Box Score

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's soccer team fell to Penn College, 6-1, here Sunday afternoon in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game at Hotchkiss Field.

Gallaudet (2-5, 1-4 NEAC) was outshot 12-0 by Penn College (5-3-1, 4-0 NEAC) in the first half. Junior forward Hailee Hartman (three goals, one assist) netted a hat trick before the end of the first half to give the Wildcats a 4-0 halftime lead.

GU fought hard in the second half but the Wildcats' defense enabled them to maintain possession and pressure and held the Bison to two shots in the final eight minutes of play.

The Bison got on the scoreboard in the 88th minute when sophomore forward Brittany Mallach (Milton, Ontario) scored her fourth goal of the season. Sophomore midfielder Teresa Tiainen (Helsinki, Finland) deflected the ball, in the middle of the goalie box, towards Mallach who blasted a shot past Penn College goalie Colleen Bowes (one save).

BISON TRACKS

  • Freshman goalkeeper Silvya Levesque (Ballston Spa. N.Y.) made seven saves
  • Mallach record both shots for the Bison
  • Tiainen's assist was her first of her collegiate career
