Markel makes a career-high 13 saves in net for the Bison

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's soccer team finished off a rough weekend here Sunday with a 7-0 loss to Cazenovia College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game.

The Bison (2-12, 1-10 NEAC) fought a tough Cazenovia defense that held the Bison offense in check all game long, holding them to four shots.

Cazenovia (8-8-1, 5-5 NEAC), led by its relentless attack, put pressure on the Bison net from the start of the game with 13 shots and three goals. Sophomore goalie Deltona Markel (Austin, Texas) kept the Bison in the game through the first half as she made six of her career-high 13 saves. The Wildcats took a 3-0 lead into halftime.

The Wildcats controlled the ball in the second half with 15 shots and four goals while holding the Bison to just one shot.

Cazenovia was led by Giavanna Cuomo-Browne who scored twice. Five other Wildcats scored one goal in the win.

Gallaudet heads to New York next weekend for two NEAC games. The Bison will begin the trip at SUNY Poly (10-4-1, 7-3 NEAC) on Saturday, Oct. 22, at noon.
