Box Score WASHINGTON - A strong start and a barrage of shots by Gallaudet helped the Bison defeat University of Valley Forge 1-0 in a non-conference game here Tuesday night under the lights at Hotchkiss Field.
Led by the return of team captain Conrad Baer (Fremont, Calif.) to Hotchkiss Field, Gallaudet (4-9-1) put pressure on Valley Forge (6-9) all game long as the Bison outshot them by 13, 20-7.
Five shots and a corner kick in six minutes of play broke the Valley Forge defense as freshman midfielder Jacob Guertler (Staunton, Va.) scored the lone goal of the game off an assist by freshman forward Roel Gutierrez (Austin, Texas). The shot slipped past the right side of the Valley Forge goalkeeper in the 19th minute.
GU took the 1-0 lead into halftime after posting 14 shots in the opening 45 minutes of play.
Gallaudet tried to add to the lead late in the second half with back-to-back corner kicks and a header from Rood Metellus (Bedford, N.Y.) in the 87th minute. GU's scoring opportunity was stopped by the resilient play of Patriots goalie Aaron Sierra (six saves).
