Box Score WASHINGTON – The defense was stout on
Sunday afternoon as Gallaudet University and Morrisville State
College played a scoreless first half before the visiting Mustangs
found the back of the net three times and won this North Eastern
Athletic Conference (NEAC) game, 3-0, at Hotchkiss Field.
Junior goalie Jennifer
Livengood (Jacksonville, Fla.) made 11 of her
game-high 17 saves in the first half as the Mustangs fired 18
shots. Gallaudet's defensive line of senior Elena
Ciccarelli (Whitesboro, N.Y.), Ashleigh
Weatherholtz (Front Royal, Va.), junior Victoria
Thompson (Harrodsburg, Ky.) and sophomore Christine
Keller (Carlsbad, Calif.) played strong for nearly 50
minutes before the Mustangs (6-4, 4-4 NEAC) found some holes in the
defense.
Morrisville scored twice in a nine-minute span when midfielder
Paris Matteo (one goal, one assist) blasted a 30-yard shot over
Livengood's head in the 48th minute for the game's first score.
Matteo then assisted Amber Welsh on her third goal of the season in
the 57th minute. Celia Abbott scored an unassisted goal in the 73rd
minute to cap the scoring for the Mustangs.
Morrisville outshot Gallaudet 35-7 in the game and held a 5-4
edge in corner kicks in the game. Angela Marriott made two saves in
goal for the Mustangs for the win.
Gallaudet (1-9, 0-7 NEAC) is in the midst of a four-game
homestand and will host Hood College in a non-conference game on
Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 7:30 p.m.
