Box Score WASHINGTON – Gallaudet University had no answers Sunday to stop the sharpshooting demonstrated by the College of Staten Island women's basketball team as the visiting Dolphins blew out the Bison, 85-58, in the Field House.
Staten Island (11-3) made 15 of 27 (55.6 percent) shots from 3-point range in the non-conference game. Guards Nikki Fabozzi (23 points, six rebounds) and Megan Myhre combined to make 8 of 9 3-point shots in the second half. Fabozzi finished 7 of 8 from long distance while Myhre made 4 of 8 and reserve Jamie Pifalo made three 3-pointers on four attempts.
Gallaudet (6-7), who has lost three straight, trailed the entire game. The Bison pulled to within four, 17-13, midway through the first half before the Dolphins went on a 14-0 run behind four 3-pointers. Staten Island led comfortably at the break up 49-28.
In the second half, another 3-point barrage from the Dolphins led to a 21-6 run, during a five-minute span, to place the game out of reach up 37, 83-46, with seven minutes left in regulation.
Gallaudet senior forward Lindsay Stergio (Montville, Conn.) led the Bison with 21 points, six rebounds and four assists. Junior forward Lane Peters (Phoenix, Ariz.) recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The Bison will jump back into conference play on Tuesday, Jan. 14, when they hit the road to face Wilson College at 5 p.m.
