WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University women's basketball team returned to the Field House for the first time in over two weeks and fell to St. Mary's College of Maryland, 70-48, on Monday night in a non-conference game.
Gallaudet (1-6) started slow as St. Mary's (Md.) opened the game with a 13-2 run in the first six minutes. The buff and blue responded with an 8-0 run to cut the margin down to three, 13-10, with one minute left in the opening quarter. The Seahawks made back-to-back 3-pointers to take a 19-10 lead into the second quarter.
St. Mary's (2-2) scored 24 points in the second quarter as the Seahawks capitalized on 10 Gallaudet turnovers that led to 15 points. The Seahawks took a 43-18 lead into halftime.
Gallaudet broke out of its offensive woes in the third quarter, scoring 18 points on an impressive 58.3 shooting percentage (7-for-12) to cut the deficit to 52-36.
The Bison couldn't carry their momentum into the fourth quarter as eight more GU turnovers led to 18 points for the visitors to seal the victory.

Seanna Baird (Indianapolis, Ind.) led the Bison with a career-high 14 points, along with three rebounds and two assists. First-year forward/center
Natalie Greene (Fresno, Texas) notched a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore forward
Mackenzie Schirg (Factoryville, Pa.) grabbed 11 rebounds and scored eight points.
Junior guard/forward Olivia Liszt led St. Mary's with a game-high 18 points and two blocks while senior guard Tramarie Mobray contributed 12 points, five assists and five steals in the win.
This match-up between GU and St. Mary's was marked as a non-conference game even though both teams are in the same conference. The teams will meet later this season for a conference game.
