Bison drop first conference game at St. Mary’s (Md.)

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Gallaudet University women's basketball team fell to St. Mary's College of Maryland on Wednesday evening in the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena, 84-43, in the conference opener.

Gallaudet (1-7, 0-1 United East) was led by first-year forward Natalie Greene (Fresno, Texas), who scored a game-high 21 points. Greene added eight rebounds and went 7-for-9 from the free-throw line.

St. Mary's (Md.) (3–2, 1–0 United East) scored at least 20 points in each of the first three quarters. The Seahawks' balanced effort saw all players, including the bench, combine for 41 points. SMCM led 40-23 at halftime and capitalized on Gallaudet's turnovers, scoring 46 points from that to secure the win.

Sophomore forward Mackenzie Schirg (Factoryville, Pa.) scored six points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Junior guard Seanna Baird (Indianapolis, Ind.) made seven points and led the team with two steals. 

The Seahawks were led by Samantha Blaylock, who scored 14 points in just 14 minutes off the bench, while Tramarie Mobray added 13 points in 17 minutes. St. Mary's (Md.) used a total of 14 players in the game.

Gallaudet will rest and regroup over the next two weeks before traveling to Lynchburg, Va., to face Randolph College (3-3) on Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. in a non-conference game.
