Bison shut out by Penn St.-Abington

Box Score

WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University women's soccer team lost 7-0 against North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opponent Penn St.-Abington on a cool, sunny Saturday afternoon at Hoy Field. The Bison (0-5-1, 0-2 NEAC) were forced into a defensive position for most of the game as the Nittany Lions (4-1, 2-0 NEAC) scored three goals in the first half and four more in the second.

Gallaudet's senior goalkeeper Kara Gulvas (Crown Point, Ind.) played tough in net, despite the seven goals against. Gulvas, the current NEAC leader in saves with 73, was able to stop 12 of the 20 shots on goal that she faced. Senior defender Katie Giles (Gaithersburg, Md.) played aggressive and prevented a goal as she deflected a shot in the 39th minute.

Freshmen midfielder Kayla Nolan led the attack for the Nittany Lions as she scored two goals on the day. The Nittany Lions were able to spread the ball around for an even attack as six different players scored goals, and nine players took shots on goal.

This game ends the Bison's six-game homestand as they look to earn their first win of the season on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 5 p.m., against Mary Baldwin College.
