Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - A first half goal by freshman forward Louisenie Philostin (Orlando, Fla.) gave the Gallaudet University women's soccer team an early 1-0 lead over visiting Wells College on Saturday afternoon at Hoy Field. Wells responded as three different Express (2-6) players scored goals en route to a 3-1 win, their second consecutive victory over the Bison (1-6).
Philostin's goal came in the 27th minute as she weaved through three defenders and pushed it past Express goalkeeper Ashley Roser (10 saves) into the lower left corner of the goal. The tally was her second goal of the season. The goal came after a number of close calls for the Bison, including a deflected shot by Philostin in the 22nd minute that rolled just wide of the net.
After a back and forth first half, the Express were able to pull away in the second half on goals from forward Paige Stone in the 49th minute and defender Shannon Blanford in the 78th minute. Blanford's goal was her third of the year, which leads all Express players. Midfielder Chelsey Martinelli scored Wells' first goal of the game in the 36th minute to knot the game at 1.
Bison goalkeeper Kara Gulvas (Crown Point, Ind.) was under siege all afternoon but was able to stop 11 of the 14 shots that came her way.
The Bison look to get back on track in a home game against conference foe Keuka College tomorrow (Sunday, Sept 23) at noon on Hotchkiss Field.
