Box Score PHILADELPHIA – The Gallaudet University women's soccer team was unable to overcome a pair of two-goal performances as the Bison fell to North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opponent Penn St.-Abington, 6-1, on the road Wednesday night.
Freshman midfielders Nicole Kidd and Desirae Holmes each scored twice for the Nittany Lions (11-5-1, 8-3-1 NEAC). Kidd's first goal got Penn St.-Abington on the scoreboard early as she turned a pass by Holmes into an assist by burying the ball into the back of the net in the fifth minute. Her second tally came in the game's 54th minute when she fired a shot into the upper left hand corner of the goal on another assist by Holmes. Both of Holmes' scores occurred within four minutes of one another. The first came in the 23rd minute off an assist from Kidd and the second came unassisted in the 27th minute. Senior midfielders Brittany Palmer and Kaitlin Kozole also added goals for the Nittany Lions.
Gallaudet freshman midfielder Sofia Lindevall (Stockholm, Sweden) notched the only goal of the evening for the Bison (4-14, 3-9 NEAC). After taking possession of a turnover at midfield, Lindevall dribbled the ball deep into Nittany Lion territory. From just inside the left side of the goalie box, Lindevall unleashed a low, rolling shot that found its way past Penn St.-Abington goalkeeper Gabrielle Benedict (three saves) and into the back of the net. The score gave the Bison leading goal-scorer her seventh tally of the year.
Senior goalkeeper Kara Gulvas (Crown Point, Ind.) recorded seven saves on 21 shots in the contest for the Bison. Freshman forward Louisenie Philostin (Conyers, Ga.) was the leading shot taker for the Bison as she recorded three on the evening (two shots on goal).
Gallaudet will wrap up the 2012 season on Friday, Oct. 26, at 1 p.m. when they host Trinity (D.C.) University in a Homecoming game at Hotchkiss Field.
