Box Score READING, Pa. – The Gallaudet University women's soccer encountered the top team in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) in Penn St.-Berks on the road Saturday and were handed a 9-0 loss.
The Nittany Lions (12-2-1, 10-0-1 NEAC) featured a well-balanced attack with six different players recording goals in the contest. Sara Conover led Berks as she converted four of her nine shots into goals to up her NEAC best total to 19 for the season.
The Bison (4-13, 3-8 NEAC) fell behind early as Caitlin Deibler netted the Nittany Lions' first goal in the second minute, as she deflected the ball off the inside of the right post. Penn St.-Berks then created separation with goals in the ninth and 10th minutes, both of which were set up by Steph Tankalavage. Gallaudet senior goalkeeper Kara Gulvas (Crown Point, Ind.) put a stop to the scoring for the rest of the half, as she recorded four saves and faced 10 shots and three corner kick opportunities.
Penn St.-Berks continued its offensive onslaught early and often in the second half; their fourth goal came quickly when Meaghan Daly kicked home a cross from Katie Warner in the 46th minute. Penn St.-Berks kept their foot on the gas as they reached the back of the net four more times in under 20 minutes, with goals in the 55th, 61st, 66th and 74th minutes. The scoring concluded in the 81st minute as Conover buried a shot in the near right corner from Emma Babp. Conover scored three of the final four goals on homecoming for the Nittany Lions.
Gulvas made every effort to keep the Bison in the game as she made 12 saves in the contest; however, Gallaudet was outshot 33-1.
Gallaudet will close out their conference schedule on the road against NEAC foe Penn St.-Abington on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 5 p.m.
