Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Gallaudet University women's soccer team made it two wins in a row Saturday with a 2-0 victory over North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opponent College of St. Elizabeth. On a warm Saturday afternoon at Hotchkiss Field, the Bison used a balanced attack to score two second half goals en route to the win.
Freshman midfielder Katie Benz (Stafford, Va.) struck first for GU in the 76th minute. With only one defender to beat on the breakaway, she dribbled past her and rolled the ball into the goal just before St. Elizabeth goalie Catherine De La Cruz could get to it. It was her first collegiate goal of her career.
Junior midfielder Tiffany Narciso (North Wildwood, N.J.) extended the lead for the Bison in the 86th minute. After being unable to convert a scoring chance just seconds earlier, Narciso got to the ball in the middle of the field and kicked a short goal up over the Screaming Eagles' defenders into the net, for her second score this year.
GU (2-9, 2-5 NEAC) once again topped their season-high shot total this game, with 19 total shots. Junior midfielder Maddie Morgan (Hockessin, Del.) led the way with five, while the two goal scorers – Benz and Narciso – attempted three shots each. Juniors Johanna Arrigo (Ewing, N.J.) and Shea Rasmus (Fremont, Calif.) had two shots, and four other Bison had one apiece. Forward Valerie Lasko took eight of CSE's 13 shots.
Gallaudet goalkeeper Casey McCullough (Oceanside, Calif.) notched her second straight win and first shutout of the season, as both goalkeepers saved an identical eight shots. GU had a slim 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The Bison hit the road looking to extend the win streak next Saturday, October 15, against NEAC foe Cazenovia at 2 p.m.
