McCullough plays final game for Bison as Penn St.-Abington slides by 3-0

Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senior goalie Casey McCullough (Oceanside, Calif.) played her final game in a Bison uniform as she made 12 saves for Gallaudet University in a 3-0 women's soccer loss to Penn St.-Abington at Hotchkiss Field. The two North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) teams sloshed through rain, sleet and near freezing temperatures before a handful of brave fans.

Gallaudet concludes the 2011 season with a 2-15 record, 2-10 mark in the conference and 2-6 at Hotchkiss Field. Penn St.-Abington (15-1, 11-1 NEAC) will continue its season as the No. 2 seed in the upcoming NEAC tournament next week.

Junior midfielder Brittany Middleton scored the first of her two goals just 11 minutes into the game on an unassisted goal shot into the lower left corner. The Nittany Lions took a 1-0 lead into an abbreviated halftime.

The Bison held off the potent Penn St.-Abington attack for much of the game until Middleton struck again at the 77:29 mark in the second half on another unassisted goal.

Junior Maddie Morgan (Hockessin, Del.) and junior Johanna Arrigo (Ewing, N.J.) both put pressure of the Nittany Lions' goal when the Bison had an offensive possession. Nittany Lion goalie Gabrielle Benedict made three saves in the shutout win. Gallaudet has been shut out nine times this season, five at home.

In the 90th minute, Penn St.-Abington padded their victory with a goal from Katelyn Hass with the assist coming from Menel Tlili.

McCullough, who did not play last season, played three seasons for GU where she saw action in 44 games (18 starts), logged 3,294 minutes, made an even 500 saves and recorded her lone shutout this season.

The Bison lose McCullough next season but will hope to see the return of goalie Kara Gulvas to go with a young and promising team that earned key game experience this season.
