Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Gallaudet University men's soccer team closed out the 2011 season at home Saturday in a driving rain mixed with sleet on a frigid day in the nation's capital. The Bison hung tough against Penn St.-Abington in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game but lost 1-0 at Hotchkiss Field.
Gallaudet concludes its season with a 2-14 overall record and a 1-9 mark in conference.
Penn St.-Abington (8-8, 6-4 NEAC) scored the game's lone goal in the 28th minute when Guy Sikpa assisted to Marco Paparo, who shot the ball low past Bison freshman goalie Eric Setzer (Middletown, Md.). The Nittany Lions took a 1-0 lead into intermission.
The game was controlled in the midfield as the team battled for possession. Setzer (five saves) and his counterpart Dan Carmack (three saves) came up with a few key stops. Penn St.-Abington held a 19-4 advantage in shots.
GU had two shots in both halves as freshman Gabriel Carino (New York, N.Y.) and junior Jean-Pierre Kanashiro (Springfield, Va.) took two shots apiece. The Bison played a complete game but could not find the back of the net as time expired.
Today's game marked the final in a Bison uniform for seniors Josh Sechman (Palmyra, Pa.), Casey Williams (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Cory Behm (Rochester, N.Y.), who all played today. The seniors will be missed as the Bison prepare to move on next season and build off a year where GU scored 14 total goals, the most in five years.
