First-place Lancaster Bible too much for Gallaudet

Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. – It was a tough Tuesday night game for the Gallaudet University women's soccer team as they struggled to get the ball in the offensive end of the field against North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) first-place team Lancaster Bible College. The visiting Chargers (16-1, 11-0 NEAC) jumped out to a 3-0 first half lead and added two goals in the second half to claim the 5-0 shutout at Hotchkiss Field.

Gallaudet (2-13, 2-9) was able to finally breakthrough the Charger defense, in the final minutes of regulation, and fire off a few shots against LBC goalie Emily Lloyd (two saves). Sophomore midfielder Monique Balcarcel (Lansing, Mich.) had the best scoring chance for the Bison as she sent a shot from the right side to the far post where the ball ricochet off the left post and back into the field of play. Junior midfielder Maddie Morgan (Hockessin, Del.) had two shots on goal to lead GU.

NEAC goal leader Ally Brown netted two goals and an assist in the win to lead the Chargers while teammate Whitney Heise scored the final goal of the first half and the first goal of the second half, her 14th of the season. Karyn Harkness scored her third goal of the season off an assist from Monica Horning in the 26th minute. LBC placed 17 shots on goal where GU goalie Casey McCullough (Oceanside, Calif.) stopped 12. A depleted Bison defense was on their heels the entire game as Lancaster outshot Gallaudet 27-0 in the first half and 38-6 in the game. The Chargers took 11 corner kicks while the Bison recorded one corner.

GU drops to 2-5 at home this season where it has been shutout three times, seven times overall. LBC has won 16 straight games after it lost its season opener against Alvernia.

The Bison will turn around and hit the road tomorrow (Wednesday, October 26) and travel to Salem, W.Va., to face Salem International University in a 4 p.m. non-conference game.
