Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – The men's soccer win streak came to a close on Tuesday for Gallaudet University as the Bison lost 3-1 at home against Lancaster Bible College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game.
Gallaudet (2-12, 1-8 NEAC) took an early 1-0 lead thanks to a penalty kick goal converted by junior forward Jean-Pierre Kanashiro (Springfield, Va.) as he beat Lancaster goalie Jarrod Bergey (three saves) in the 14th minute. The Bison took that 1-0 advantage into halftime as both teams took five shots in the first 45 minutes of play.
The game remained 1-0 until the 70th minute when an over aggressive Kanashiro charged a Lancaster Bible player and committed a foul and was hit with a yellow card. The free kick opportunity led to the Charger's first goal. Defender Richard Westerlund skied a 35-yard lob towards the Bison goal where forward Sean Westerlund got his head on the ball and directed it into the net. LBC (7-9-2, 5-3-2) quickly added to its goal total as Taylor Dooley booted in his 10th goal of the season three minutes later off a scramble in front of the GU goal.
Sean Westerlund tallied his second goal of the game, 11th of the season, with three minutes left in the game when Bison goalie Eric Setzer (Middletown, Md.) had a fail clear and was out of position. Sean Westerlund was then able to fire a shot from 40 yards out into an empty net.
LBC outshot Gallaudet 14-4 in the second half and held an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks in the game. Setzer finished the game with three saves.
GU had won two straight entering today's game as they tried to extend it to three for the first time in over a decade. The Chargers were also able to hold freshman midfielder Karlis Intsons (Riga, Latvia) without a goal for the first time in five games to end his four game goal streak.
The Bison will regroup and hit the road tomorrow (Wednesday, October 26) and travel to Salem, W.Va., to face Salem International University in a 4 p.m. non-conference game.
