Box Score BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Gallaudet University men's soccer team snapped a 21-game losing streak on Wednesday with a 4-2 victory over Bryn Athyn College on the road. The two teams played in the rain to a 1-1 tie in the first half before the Bison exploded for three unanswered goals to secure the win on a very wet field.
Bryn Athyn (1-10) got on the scoreboard first just five minutes into the game on a Scott Merrill goal. The Bison (1-11) responded with an unassisted goal off the foot of freshman Jose Castillo (Madison, Wis.) in the 22nd minute. Gallaudet held a 10-6 advantage in shots through the first half.
In the second half, it was the host Lions that struck first when Blake McCurdy (one goal, one assist) netted an unassisted goal past freshman goalie Eric Setzer (Middletown, Md.) just three minutes in. Setzer finished the game with three saves as he logged all 90 minutes.
Gallaudet answered with three straight unassisted goals. Junior forward Jean-Pierre Kanashiro (Springfield, Va.) got things started with his team leading fifth goal of the season in the 54th minute. Four minutes later, freshman midfielder Karlis Intsons (Riga, Latvia) scored his third goal in as many games as he got a shot past Lions goalie Raul Figueroa (nine saves). Juior midfielder Richard Spiecker (Rochester, N.Y.) capped things off with his first goal of the season in the 63rd minute.
The Bison outshot the Lions 23-11 as both teams took four corner kicks.
Gallaudet will host Penn St.-Berks on Friday, October 21, at 5 p.m. at Hotchkiss Field in a North Eastern Athletic Conference game on Homecoming weekend.
