Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Gallaudet
University women's soccer program won its first-ever North Eastern
Athletic Conference (NEAC) game on Saturday with a 4-2 victory over
Wells College at Hotchkiss Field. This is the first year for the
Bison in the NEAC. The victory also snaps GU's four game winless
streak.
Gallaudet (3-4, 1-1 NEAC) got on the board 36 seconds into the
game when senior Virginia
Keeler (Ann Arbor, Mich.) scored a goal off an assist
from sophomore Johanna
Arrigo (Ewing, N.J.). Wells answered back in the 8th
minute when Rebecca Furman scored an unassisted goal. The two teams
traded goals over the next 14 minutes. Freshman Lauren
Hostovsky (Medfield, Mass.) finished a nice feed from
sophomore Tiffany
Narciso (North Wildwood, N.J.). The Bison added one
more goal before the half when sophomore Maddie
Morgan (Hockessin, Del.) blasted a 20-yard shot that
went off the crossbar and into the goal. GU led 3-2 at the
half.
The second half was a defensive struggle as both teams showed
signs of wearing down on a sultry day in the nation's capital.
Gallaudet added an insurance goal in the 55th minute when Arrigo
scored off an assist from Hostovsky. Arrigo broke past the Wells
defense on the fast break and was left one-on-one with Express
goalie Rachel Mattraw (six saves).
Bison goalie Kara Gulvas
(Crown Point, Ind.) finished the game with eight saves. GU held a
18-12 advantage over Wells in shots while the Express (1-7-1, 1-2
NEAC) took one more corner kick 5-4.
GU will turn around and host Keuka College tomorrow (Sunday,
September 26) at 1 p.m.
