Box Score STAUNTON, Va. – The Gallaudet University
women's soccer team suffered a tough 2-1 loss on Thursday against
Mary Baldwin College on the road. The Bison surrendered a penalty
kick goal in the 64th minute of the game, in what proved to be the
difference.
Gallaudet (2-2) mounted a late comeback as sophomore Johanna
Arrigo (Ewing, N.J.) scored her first goal of the
season in the 74th minute to cut the Mary Baldwin lead to one, 2-1.
The Bison had a chance to tie the game in the final minutes when
senior Virginia
Keeler (Ann Arbor, Mich.) took a penalty kick but her
shot hit the post.
The Bison outshot the Fighting Squirrels 14-7 and took two more
corner kicks, 7-5. Sophomore goalie Kara Gulvas
(Crown Point, Ind.) made three saves in the game for the Bison.
Mary Baldwin (1-2) struck first in the 33rd minute when
Elizabeth Agnew found Aisha Williams for the goal. MBC led 1-0 at
the half. In the second half, Jill Stubbs converted the penalty
kick attempt to give the Fighting Squirrels a 2-0 lead with 26
minutes left in the game. MBC goalie Erica Gaughan finished the
game with nine saves.
Gallaudet will make its North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC)
debut on Saturday, September 18, at home against defending
conference champion Penn St.-Harrisburg. The game time is slated
for 4 p.m. at Hotchkiss Field.
