Box Score READING, Pa. – The Gallaudet University
women's soccer team was dealt a tough 7-1 loss by Penn St.-Berks on
the road Saturday in a crucial North Eastern Athletic Conference
(NEAC) game for the Bison. GU (6-10, 4-6 NEAC) is on the bubble for
the conference playoffs and entered the weekend trying to shore up
one of the six spots. The Bison are currently tied for seventh
place with SUNY Cobleskill (6-9-1, 4-6 NEAC).
Gallaudet will need a win tomorrow (Sunday, October 24) against
Penn St.-Abington (6-8, 3-6 NEAC) on the road. The final
regular-season NEAC game for GU will take place at noon.
Penn St.-Berks (9-8, 8-2 NEAC) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the
first 45 minutes of play and tacked on three more goals in the
second half before Gallaudet got on the board.
Senior midfielder Virginia
Keeler (Ann Arbor, Mich.) netted Gallaudet's lone goal
in the 78th minute. Keeler scored the unassisted goal with a shot
to the left corner past goalie Kathleen O'Kane (two saves).
The Lions were led by Alyssa Scheidt who scored the first four
goals and added her fifth in the game in the 64th minute. Taylor
Kreider (one goal, two assists) and Kalee Stine scored the other
goals for Penn St.-Berks.
Sophomore goalie Kara Gulvas
(Crown Point, Ind.) made 16 saves in the loss. The Lions outshot
the Bison 35-5 (21-2 in the first half). Penn St.-Berks took eight
corner kicks while the Bison had one.
