WASHINGTON, D.C. – Gallaudet University played one of its best halves of men's soccer this season as the Bison almost came back against Cazenovia College on Sunday afternoon at Hotchkiss Field. The Bison outshot the Wildcats 8-7 and scored a goal but the visitors came away with the 2-1 win in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play.

Gallaudet (1-14, 1-6 NEAC) recorded a season-high 11 shots in the one-goal loss. Freshman Abdul Al-Makura (Bassa, Nigeria) led the Bison with four shots, one on goal. Sophomore forward Wilson Velez III (Marlborough, Mass.) scored his first collegiate goal in the 48th minute against the Wildcats (3-8-2, 3-3-1 NEAC). Velez's shot went to the lower right corner. Cazenovia goalie Riley Battaglini (one save) dove to his left but the ball caromed off his hand and into the net.

The Wildcats netted two first half goals as Travis Lasher scored off an assist from Anthony Meola, 11 minutes in, to put Cazenovia out in front 1-0. Gallaudet committed a foul in its own goalie box in the 30th minute which led to a penalty kick goal converted by Robert Dufort.

Junior goalie Poloko Qobose (Gaborone, Botswana) made seven saves in net and received two assists from his defenders that blocked would be goals.

On Saturday, the Bison lost a very physical conference game 4-0 to the hands of Morrisville State College (6-5-1, 2-2-1 NEAC). Mustang forward Andrew Brobbey recorded a hat trick as he scored the game's first three goals. Erik Whitcombe (one goal, one assist) had the other tally for the Mustangs. Morrisville outshot Gallaudet 26-4. Qobose made 11 saves in the loss.

Gallaudet is off until next weekend when the Bison head to Pennsylvania to face Penn St.-Berks and Penn St.-Abington.
